I see a lot of people in my DMs asking me "How can I increase my income?"

What if I told you - the notion of "increasing my income" is a stupid one, it is a goal that is against your goal of getting rich.

This is not some philosophical rant urging you to go broke - I am here to make you rich. What I mean is, increasing your "income" will not make you rich, and the moment I realised this, my life changed.

The problem with "income" is that most people see it as remuneration earned from one's job or professional service. There's a huge problem with this - you are trading your time for money. Even if you are not an "employee", you are still working YOURSELF to make yourself money.

You are not employing any leverage - that is, someone else actively working to make you rich. This doesn't have to be a human - it could be an algorithm (SEO, YouTube, Twitter), an affiliate program (your affiliates working for you), companies you have invested in, etc.

Increase your income by all means - work 3 remote jobs, start 2 more side hustles - whatever the hell you want. But "increasing your income" is not an end - it is a means to another end.

And what is that end?

Accumulating assets.

Assets that working actively for you, giving you a leverage that keeps making you richer.

The rich don't take spend their income. They invest it into companies, and live off the dividends. They invest in income generating real estate, and live off the rental income. They focus on getting the asset first, and only use their asset income for luxuries (for all the "I'll buy a lambo from my first 300k" guys).

I see 3 major leverages or assets that you can build:

Investing in quality business - stock market for lower risk, smaller companies for higher returns/risk, or even commercial real estate
Building an audience. This is my biggest asset. I have an audience. I can leverage it in infinite ways to make money.
People. This could be your spouse who becomes your partner in crime, your retired dad who you teach programming and make your tech guy, your employees, your affiliate partners.

Make this your ultimate goal - you must acquire as many income generating assets as you can. Some examples:

A blog that leverages Google to make ad $
A YouTube channel
Your book listed on Amazon
Twitter audience
Gumroad listing
Email list
Apple Stock
Restaurant in partnership with your uncle
Trading algo
Your old house (AirBnB)
12 affiliates who brought in 47 sales last month

Focus on getting these. A day will come when these assets will generate so much income that your main income will become insignificant. This is when you will see the real power of compounding - you will keep acquiring more assets from the income gained from existing assets, making you even more money and so forth.

Audience attracts audience, and money attracts money. Keep building income generating assets. The richest men have become rich by owning valuable income generators.

Think like Warren Buffet, not like a Shmucky Guru.
