True wealth is made over many years. It is not made in a few months or even years. So, metrics such as MRR can often be misleading.

If you keep optimising for “Monthly revenue” (or worse, “daily revenue”), you might end up adopting a very myopic view of doing business.

Yes, short terms tactics will surely boost your revenue in the short run. These include:

Frequent Discounts
Clickbaity marketing
Fast hiring or fundraising

If you discount too often people will stop buying from you at the full price and keep waiting for discounts. If you clickbait too often, people will simply stop clicking. If you hire too fast, you might burn through all your cash. If you fundraise too fast, you lose precious equity.

Rising MRRs built on an unsustainable foundation lead you nowhere. It is much better to figure out the fundamentals of your business well (Why do people buy, what do they want to buy, how much expense is reasonable for my business, etc) - and build slowly on top of this info.

It might give you a slow start, but after a few years you will thank yourself - as all your competitors have exhausted themselves due to their short term tactics, they no longer have the trust of customers, and they also have no brand value.

Business is not a 2 year venture - it’s a lifelong venture. Warren Buffett is nearly 100 years old and is still going strong on business. Trump, Elon, Bezos are ageing and are still not done.

If you keep up a “haha, let’s try to make as much money as I can in the next 1 year and we will see later” mindset, you are rooting for your own defeat.

I am not asking you to keep delaying your revenue and never adopt such tactics. You need to meet some metrics short term as well to know if you are doing well. Balance is the key. A monthly discount is fine, an every-3-days discount is not.
